Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level meeting at his residence on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming Assembly bypolls in 10 key constituencies. The deliberations also focused on the recent floods affecting over 700 villages across 17 districts.

The meeting follows the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the ruling BJP witnessed a significant decline, securing only 33 seats—29 fewer than in 2019. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc made substantial gains, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) winning 37 seats, a jump of 32 seats from the previous election, and the Congress securing six seats.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna expressed confidence after the meeting, stating that the BJP aims to win all 10 bypoll seats. Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh confirmed that discussions also touched upon flood relief and developmental works. The meeting included ministers from various portfolios. The bypolls are for seats in Katehari, Karhal, Milkipur, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur, and Kundarki. Nine seats became vacant following MLA resignations post-Lok Sabha victories, including Karhal, vacated by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
