Congress leader K C Venugopal has announced that the party has taken disciplinary action against several MLAs who cross-voted in the biennial elections for 11 seats in the Maharashtra legislative council last week.
Speaking to reporters after a preparatory meeting for the upcoming Maharashtra legislative assembly elections, Venugopal stressed the importance of discipline within the party and hinted that future results would reflect these actions. However, he did not specify the number or names of the MLAs involved.
When asked whether the dissenting legislators would be denied tickets in the assembly elections, Venugopal cryptically remarked, 'You can have your own assumptions.' In the recent legislative council elections, seven Congress MLAs cross-voted against their party's designated candidates, which affected the expected election outcomes for Congress and its ally Shiv Sena (UBT).
