In a significant development during an all-party meeting ahead of the Parliament session, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh revealed that the JD(U) and the YSRCP have renewed demands for special category status for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.

Surprisingly, the TDP, which has been vocal about such issues in the past, chose to remain silent on the matter. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with BJP President JP Nadda also in attendance.

Adding to the chorus, the BJD leader reminded the gathering about the BJP's 2014 assembly election manifesto promise to grant special category status to Odisha. The calls for special status are gaining momentum, particularly post-Lok Sabha polls.
