The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress on Tuesday slammed the Union Budget 2024-25, describing it as 'anti-Odisha' and alleging that it overlooked pressing concerns of the state.
In contrast, the ruling BJP hailed the budget proposals as 'growth-oriented,' asserting they would spur employment.
Biju Janata Dal vice-president and MLA Prasanna Acharya accused the Centre of siding with its ally in Andhra Pradesh through the Polavaram irrigation project, potentially harming Odisha's tribal regions. BJP leaders countered, praising the budget's focus on tourism and economic upliftment in Odisha.
The BJD staged a walkout in Rajya Sabha, protesting the denial of Special Category State status for Odisha, which was granted additional funds unlike similar requests from Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
