Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Union Budget 2024 on Tuesday, emphasizing its robust initiatives for employment generation and small business empowerment. Sarma highlighted significant schemes such as the PM's Package for Employment & Skilling, which includes 1 crore paid internship opportunities and employment-linked incentives, calling them potential game changers. He extended his compliments to Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget that aims to solidify India's path to becoming the world's third-largest economy, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sarma also expressed gratitude for the special assistance earmarked for Assam's flood mitigation efforts in the budget. He noted that this special allocation would aid in addressing the flood challenges in the state. Additionally, he mentioned that the land registration reforms introduced would enhance ongoing state projects like Mission Basundhara 3.0.
The Assam CM further pointed out the budget's increased allocation for PM Awas Yojana and the PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan. These initiatives strive to saturate schemes in all tribal majority villages and will positively impact Assam. Sarma also praised various budget measures such as the infrastructure push via Rs 1.5 lakh crore to states, the focus on agricultural productivity, green energy initiatives, and generous rural development funding. He applauded the budget's progressive reforms, including the review of IT Act and the withdrawal of Angel Tax, which he believes will keep India on track as the fastest-growing economy.
Sarma was particularly delighted with the allocation of Rs 1,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana, which aims to provide welfare to Assam's tea garden community. He commended the Modi government's efforts in bringing substantial benefits to the backbone of Assam's tea industry. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting her seventh consecutive Union Budget, made history by surpassing the previous record of six consecutive budgets delivered by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai between 1959 and 1964. Sitharaman's budget outlined key priorities aimed at fostering economic growth and creating ample opportunities.
