BJP's Smita Rani Mohanty Ousted in No-Confidence Motion
Smita Rani Mohanty, Chairperson of Phulbani municipality in Odisha, was ousted following a no-confidence motion. Eleven out of thirteen councillors supported the motion. Allegations of corruption and financial irregularities were cited against her. The state government will now determine the municipality's future governance.

Smita Rani Mohanty, the Chairperson of Phulbani municipality in Odisha, was voted out of office following a no-confidence motion on Tuesday, according to officials.
Within two months of BJP's ascent to power in Odisha, 11 out of 13 councillors supported the motion against Mohanty. One vote was rejected, while two BJP councillors and Mohanty herself abstained from the voting.
Allegations of corruption, financial irregularities, and misconduct were cited as reasons for the motion, which had been presented to the Kandhamal collector by eleven councillors including two from the BJP.
The state government will now decide on the future governance of the municipality.
