Netflix Co-Founder Reed Hastings Donates $7 Million to Support Kamala Harris' Presidential Run
Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has donated $7 million to support Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. This is his largest donation to a single candidate. Following President Biden's withdrawal and endorsement of Harris, her campaign raised $81 million in a single day.
Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has made a substantial $7 million donation to a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris' bid for the U.S. presidency, a source close to Hastings confirmed on Tuesday.
This donation marks Hastings' largest political contribution to a single candidate. On Monday, Hastings congratulated Harris after she secured the majority support of Democratic delegates to become the party nominee against Republican Donald Trump in November.
"Congrats to Kamala Harris -- now it is time to win," Hastings posted on social media platform X. President Joe Biden stepped aside from his candidacy for the 2024 election and endorsed Harris on Sunday, following pressure from Democratic members of Congress and donors, including Hastings.
Harris' campaign raised an impressive $81 million within 24 hours of Biden's exit, the highest single-day fundraising total in the 2024 campaign for either party. Hastings, who co-founded Netflix in 1997, stepped down as CEO in 2023 and now serves as the executive chairman of the Netflix board.
