US President Joe Biden has stepped aside from the 2024 presidential race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee in a bid to unify the nation. Biden delivered a prime-time address, marking the first time he spoke directly to the American people about his decision since his announcement three days ago.

“I've decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation,” Biden said in an emotional Oval Office address on Wednesday. “There is a time and a place for long years of experience, but there's also a time and a place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices, and that time and place is now.”

Biden stressed the importance of saving democracy, which he sees as being at stake. He hailed Harris as a capable and experienced leader and stated that the American people now have the choice to move forward or backward, to choose between unity and division. He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing gun violence, climate change, economic growth, and the defense of civil rights.
