Acrimonious scenes marked the Karnataka Legislative Assembly proceedings on Thursday as opposition BJP and JD(S) members demanded a discussion on the alleged fraudulent allotment of sites by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi.
Despite citing procedural rules, Speaker U T Khader rejected the opposition's notice for an adjournment motion, thwarting their efforts to corner Siddaramaiah and the ruling Congress. Subsequently, the opposition staged a 'day-and-night' dharna in the legislative buildings after the session adjourned on Wednesday.
In the Thursday session, opposition members trooped into the well of the House with placards, leading to a sloganeering match. Senior BJP MLA Sunil Kumar accused the government of covering up the alleged Rs 3000-4000 crore scam and demanded a CBI probe, stating the land was illegally taken from a Dalit family. Congress MLAs retorted, causing further heated exchanges. Amid the chaos, several bills were passed without discussion and resolutions on major national issues were adopted.
