Trinamool MP Criticizes Finance Minister's Budget Presentation

Trinamool MP Saugata Roy criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Union Budget, claiming it lacks original ideas and is based on notes from the Prime Minister's Office. He dubbed it the 'Andhra-Bihar' Budget, asserting it neglects the common man and favors specific states. Opposition members echoed similar sentiments.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy sharply criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Union Budget, labeling it as unoriginal and heavily influenced by the Prime Minister's Office. According to Roy, Sitharaman, who he noted is not a trained economist, failed to present innovative ideas in the Budget for 2024-25.

Participating in a parliamentary debate, Roy referred to the Budget as the 'Andhra-Bihar' Budget, arguing that it neglected the interests of the common man while favoring states like Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. He pointed out significant allocations of Rs 59,000 crore to Bihar and Rs 15,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh.

Roy also emphasized that the Centre's announced scheme for offering loans up to Rs 10 lakh for higher education in domestic institutions is already being implemented by West Bengal's state government. Several opposition members joined Roy in alleging discrimination against non-NDA states, claims which the ruling BJP has categorically denied.
