Several BJP-ruled states have expanded their support to ex-Agniveers by offering reservation quotas in uniformed services such as police, jail guards, and emergency services. These initiatives come amid ongoing criticism of the Agnipath scheme by opposition parties who call for its cancellation.
Rajasthan and Arunachal Pradesh have recently announced preferences for Agniveers in state police and other uniformed roles. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma made the declaration on Kargil Vijay Diwas, promising reserves in state police and jail guard recruitments. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu echoed similar support, highlighting the transformative nature of the initiative.
Meanwhile, states like Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh have promised various incentives, including age relaxations and financial aid. Efforts by these states indicate a broader push to facilitate the transition of Agniveers from military service to civilian employment, despite opposition parties’ demand to retract the scheme.
