Mata Prasad Pandey Appointed Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh Assembly
The Samajwadi Party has appointed seven-time MLA Mata Prasad Pandey as the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Indrajeet Saroj will serve as the deputy leader. Pandey replaces Akhilesh Yadav, who resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha. The appointments come alongside other key positions in the assembly.

The Samajwadi Party appointed seven-time MLA Mata Prasad Pandey as the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Sunday. The 82-year-old, who represents Itwa in the Siddharth Nagar district, succeeds Akhilesh Yadav following his resignation from the Karhal seat after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj.
Indrajeet Saroj, a five-time MLA from Manjhanpur in the Kaushambi district, has been appointed as the deputy leader of the party in the House. The decision was made at a meeting at the SP headquarters, where party MLAs had authorized Akhilesh Yadav to make the selection.
In addition, Kanth MLA Kamaal Akhtar was named the chief whip, with Raniganj MLA Rakesh Kumar alias R K Verma as the deputy whip, and Atraulia MLA Sangram Singh Yadav as whip in the assembly. SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary confirmed the appointments in a statement issued by the party.
