Two Congress office-bearers have been suspended for 'indiscipline' after giving a warm reception to senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya at the opposition party's Indore office.
Vijayvargiya visited the local Congress office on July 12 to invite leaders to a sapling plantation drive for the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. Party functionaries were seen sharing tea and snacks with him.
A notice issued by the Congress accused the city unit president Surjit Singh Chaddha and district unit president Sadashiv Yadav of dishonoring democratic values by welcoming Vijayvargiya. The notice sought an explanation from both within seven days, and they were suspended until further notice.
Mukesh Nayak, head of the MP Congress media department, confirmed the suspensions, citing unresolved issues from a previous incident involving Vijayvargiya and Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bam.
Chaddha and Yadav's actions were labeled as 'dishonesty' towards the party. Bam had withdrawn his nomination before the last elections, leading the Congress to miss the Indore Lok Sabha race for the first time in 72 years, which resulted in a significant BJP victory.
