Jacob Zuma Expelled After Launching Rival Political Party
Former South African President Jacob Zuma was expelled from the African National Congress (ANC) after forming a new political party, the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party, which became the third largest in the country. This led to the ANC losing its parliamentary majority and forming a unity government.
Former South African President Jacob Zuma was expelled from the African National Congress (ANC) on Monday after establishing a new political party that competed in the country’s recent elections.
Zuma’s uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party garnered nearly 15% of the national vote, making it the third largest party in South Africa. This move contributed to the ANC losing its parliamentary majority for the first time since gaining power in 1994.
The ANC has since formed a unity government with several other parties, including its primary rival, the Democratic Alliance. Despite leading the MK and denouncing the ANC, Zuma insists he remains a member of the ANC.
