The Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday expelled eight leaders, including former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and ex-Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, who had revolted against party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.

The party's disciplinary committee, led by senior leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar, took serious note of anti-party activities under a conspiracy and cancelled the primary membership of Chandumajra, Kaur, and former MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala.

The expulsion also included Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Sikandar Singh Maluka, Surjit Singh Rakhra, Surinder Singh Thekedar, and Charanjit Singh Brar. The committee concluded that these leaders were tarnishing the party's image with their actions.

This disciplinary action follows last month’s revolt by a section of senior leaders who demanded Badal's resignation after the party's poor performance in Punjab's Lok Sabha elections. Prominent figures among the dissenters included Chandumajra, Kaur, and Wadala, along with former ministers Maluka, Dhindsa, Rakhra, and Sarwan Singh Phillaur, and party leader Sucha Singh Chhotepur.
