Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday passionately defended the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the Upper House, underscoring its 'unimpeachable credentials' in contributing to national service.
Dhankhar’s remarks came in response to a statement by Samajwadi Party's Ramji Lal Suman, who alleged that RSS affiliation was a criterion for selecting the head of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Dhankhar quickly ordered that Suman's comments be struck from the record, affirming that the RSS fully holds constitutional rights to aid in the nation's development.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge defended Suman, asserting that MPs should be allowed to speak within the rules. However, Dhankhar clarified that the remarks were not just against parliamentary rules but also violated the Constitution, declaring that any organization, including the RSS, has the right to contribute to national growth.
