Mumbai Congress President Varsha Gaikwad has initiated an overhaul by appointing assembly in-charges across all six parliamentary constituencies in the city. The move aims to rejuvenate the grassroots cadre ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections.

Speaking to PTI, Gaikwad mentioned that some positions have seen replacements to better mobilize the party's ground support. The newly appointed in-charges will form block committees and act as links between grassroots workers and the party leadership.

In the 2019 assembly elections, Congress won only four out of 36 seats. However, the party made a comeback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as Gaikwad wrested the Mumbai North Central seat from the BJP. Seat-sharing talks for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are set to begin on August 7.
