Chaos in Jharkhand Assembly: 18 BJP MLAs Suspended

Jharkhand Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto on Thursday suspended 18 BJP MLAs for misconduct and violating the decorum of the House. The Speaker stated that the legislators misbehaved with both male and female marshals and flouted norms by uploading videos on social media from within the House. The assembly session was subsequently adjourned until Friday.

'I am deeply saddened by BJP MLAs' conduct. It is a black day in the 24 years of Jharkhand's history,' Mahto told reporters. The suspended MLAs were removed by the marshals after they refused to leave the House following their suspension till 2 PM on August 2.

The Speaker's action came after the BJP members created a ruckus in protest of opposition MLAs' eviction by marshals the previous day, as well as Chief Minister Hemant Soren's alleged refusal to respond to their queries.
