Former Maharashtra home minister and NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh on Saturday dismissed fresh bribery allegations leveled by discredited Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze, calling it a 'new move' by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Reacting to the allegations, Fadnavis, who oversees the Home department, assured that a proper inquiry would be conducted.

Waze, currently imprisoned in Taloja Central Jail in Navi Mumbai for his involvement in the 'Antilia' bomb scare and the murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran, reiterated his claims of bribery against Deshmukh, originally brought to light by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Singh had accused Deshmukh of instructing police officers to extort Rs 100 crore per month from city bars and restaurants during his tenure. Facing these serious allegations, Deshmukh resigned as home minister in 2021.

In a recent statement, Deshmukh alleged that Fadnavis orchestrated these fresh claims due to previous accusations made by Deshmukh against Fadnavis, including an attempt to implicate Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray. Fadnavis, however, has disputed these claims and suggested releasing evidence against Deshmukh.
