Vijender Gupta, the BJP's Rohini MLA, has been declared the new leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

Gupta, a former Delhi BJP president, replaces Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who stepped down after being elected to the Lok Sabha. Addressing the media, Gupta called for an assembly session to discuss governance failures under the AAP administration.

The announcement followed a legislative party meeting at the state BJP office, where Gupta was elected unanimously. Key party members, including all seven BJP MLAs, Delhi BJP co-incharge Alka Gurjar, president Virendra Sachdeva, and general secretary (organisation) Pawan Rana, were in attendance.

Ajay Mahawar, the party's chief whip in the assembly, proposed Gupta's name for the position, which was then declared by the Delhi BJP president. Gupta, who previously served as leader of opposition from 2015 to 2020, will have a brief tenure with assembly polls scheduled early next year.

Expressing gratitude to the party leadership, Gupta emphasized the BJP's commitment to exposing the 'failures' of the AAP government and voicing public concerns.
