In a dramatic show of defiance, around 50 Congress legislators staged an overnight dharna in the Well of the Rajasthan Assembly to protest against the suspension of party MLA Mukesh Bhakar.
The protesting MLAs placed mattresses in the Assembly Well and sang bhajans throughout the night, as they expressed their dissent. The protest was also highlighted by Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, who shared a picture on X.
Chaotic scenes erupted in the Assembly on Monday after chairperson Sandeep Sharma ordered marshals to evict Bhakar over alleged indecent behavior. Congress MLAs prevented the marshals from executing the order, leading to physical confrontations. In the melee, one MLA fell while another claimed her bangles broke. Despite the chairperson's adjournment order, Congress members continued their dharna. Former CM Ashok Gehlot condemned the treatment of opposition MLAs as undemocratic.
