Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus has been officially appointed to lead an interim government in Bangladesh. This crucial role comes after the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, driven by student-led uprisings. President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment to meet a significant demand from demonstrating students.

Yunus, who has been in Paris for medical treatment, appealed for calm in a statement to Reuters. 'Let us make the best use of our new victory,' he said. Upon arriving back in Bangladesh, he expressed eagerness to contribute to resolving the country's crises. Yunus also highlighted the urgency of finalizing the interim government, with expectations of its formation by late Wednesday.

Amid hopes for stabilization, the Army chief and other military leaders have engaged in discussions to ensure a peaceful transition. President Shahabuddin has also instated new leadership in the police force and intelligence agencies. Public unrest remains, but a normalization of the situation is anticipated in the coming days.
