The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on August 9 regarding AAP leader Manish Sisodia's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to reject his bail in the excise policy irregularities cases. The order, to be delivered by justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, comes after arguments concluded on Tuesday.
The legal tussle centers around the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing allegations of wrongdoing in the formulation and implementation of Delhi's now-scrapped excise policy. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, representing the probe agencies, argued that witnesses could be influenced, and evidence indicated that Sisodia destroyed phone records.
On the other hand, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi, defending Sisodia, highlighted that nearly 17 months have elapsed, approaching half the minimum possible sentence. He refuted claims of arbitrary profit margin increases and political victimization, attributing policy decisions to extensive cabinet deliberations. Sisodia remains in judicial custody as both sides await the Supreme Court's critical verdict.
