The Congress on Thursday extended its congratulations to Professor Muhammad Yunus, who has been sworn in as the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Rahul Gandhi emphasized the urgent need for peace and normalcy in the country.

Nobel laureate Yunus took on this role following the abrupt resignation of Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India amid violent protests over a controversial job quota system. Yunus, an eminent figure in microfinance and social entrepreneurship, is expected to bring stability to the turbulent political landscape.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his well-wishes on X, hoping for the restoration of peace in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh praised Yunus for his pioneering work with Grameen Bank, which inspired India's own National Rural Livelihoods Mission. Yunus, 84, was sworn in by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban, and a 16-member advisory council was announced to assist him.
