Thailand's People's Party to Lead Progressive Charge

Thailand's Move Forward party has reformed as the People's Party after its dissolution by the Constitutional Court. The new party aims to continue Move Forward's progressive agenda under the leadership of Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut. The agenda includes amending Article 112, a law protecting the monarchy.

Thailand's disbanded opposition Move Forward unveiled fresh leadership and a new political vehicle named People's Party, aiming to become the largest faction in parliament. The party vows to advance Move Forward's progressive platform after it was dissolved by the Constitutional Court for attempting to amend a royal protection law.

All 143 surviving Move Forward lawmakers have joined the People's Party, led by 37-year-old Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, a former cloud software executive. Natthaphong emphasized the party's mission to create a government for change by 2027 while continuing to champion Move Forward's ideology.

The dissolution, criticized globally by entities like the U.S., U.K., and EU, marks the latest chapter in Thailand's prolonged power struggle. Move Forward's liberal agenda garnered massive youth and urban support but faced fierce opposition from the conservative establishment and royalists.
