In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy cases. The apex court ruled that the trial court's claim that Sisodia was responsible for delaying the trial was unsupported by the records.
While considering the substantial magnitude of documents involved, the Supreme Court emphasized that Sisodia had the right to take reasonable time for inspecting the 69,000 pages of documents related to the cases. Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan stated that denying this right would compromise fair trial principles.
Additionally, the bench noted that the trial court had allowed all of Sisodia's applications, many of which were for procedural requests, contradicting the claim of frivolous delays. The verdict also addressed the need for thorough scrutiny before trial commencement, given the ongoing investigations by the CBI and ED.
