Following the Supreme Court's decision to grant bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that "no dictatorial government is above the justice system." Mayor Oberoi thanked the apex court for its ruling.
"First of all, I would like to thank the Supreme Court. The court has made it clear that no dictatorial government is above the justice system," Mayor Oberoi remarked. She continued to critique the BJP, stating, "This is a slap on the face of the BJP."
The Mayor also expressed optimism regarding the release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. "We are hopeful that in the coming time, the Chief Minister will also come out soon," she said.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai acknowledged the sentiments of Delhi's citizens, who were praying for their leaders' release. "The people of Delhi were feeling helpless. They had elected a government with a full majority, but their Deputy CM (Manish Sisodia) was in jail for the last 17 months. The people were only praying for the release of their leaders," Gopal Rai stated.
Rai further emphasized, "Manish Sisodia's bail has sent a message to the whole country that no matter how strong the dictatorship is, it loses in the end." Sisodia was released on bail from Tihar Jail on August 9 after spending 17 months in connection to the Delhi Excise Policy case.
The former Deputy CM was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February 2023 due to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. AAP leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh, among others, accompanied Sisodia as he walked out of jail, where party workers and RWA members celebrated his release.
Sisodia credited his release to the Constitution crafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar and expressed confidence that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal would also be freed soon. (ANI)
