The long-standing rivalry between Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray reignited with renewed intensity this weekend. Tensions escalated after a group of MNS workers attacked Uddhav Thackeray's convoy with cow dung and tomatoes in Thane, following a similar attack on Raj Thackeray's motorcade in Beed.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, entangled in a political and legal battle with Uddhav Thackeray, described the Thane incident as merely a 'reaction to action.' While Uddhav’s party distanced itself from the Beed incident, MP Sanjay Raut accused unidentified individuals of instigating divisions under the influence of external forces, hinting at political adversaries.

As the Maharashtra assembly elections approach, Shiv Sena, led by the coalition of BJP and NCP factions, prepares for a contentious battle against the opposition MVA alliance, amidst a landscape altered by recent political realignments. Meanwhile, the police have registered FIRs against 54 MNS workers involved in the Thane protest.
