In a fiery statement on Tuesday, senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to protect women doctors in state-run hospitals.

Adhikari urged the public to take to the streets to demand Banerjee's resignation. As leader of the opposition, he announced that BJP MLAs would stage a sit-in in Kolkata on August 14 to press their demands.

'We also demand a court-monitored CBI probe, as there would be attempts to suppress evidence to shield the main culprits who are yet to be apprehended,' the Nandigram MLA stated. Adhikari further noted plans to pray to the Calcutta High Court to summon Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and other significant figures in the investigation.
