The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), under the leadership of Ajit Pawar, will commemorate Independence Day with a unique campaign focused on the Preamble of the Constitution, according to a senior party official.

During a press conference, Sunil Tatkare, the state NCP president, revealed that 'Sanvidhan Sabhas' (constitutional assemblies) will be organized in every NCP office across the state.

Prominent party figures, including ministers, MPs, MLAs, and district and block unit presidents, will spearhead these assemblies to discuss the core principles and values of the Constitution. NCP offices will prominently feature large displays of the Preamble in Marathi, Tatkare disclosed.

“This campaign pays tribute to the Preamble of the Constitution and reaffirms the NCP's dedication to its guiding principles,” stated Tatkare. NCP's national president and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, will lead the Sanvidhan Sabha in Pune, while national working president Praful Patel will attend events in Gondia and Bhandara. Tatkare himself will lead the Mumbai assembly.

The campaign will see participation from NCP's Guardian Ministers, MPs, and MLAs, who will host sabhas at district headquarters and in their constituencies. Additionally, district and block unit chiefs will organize similar assemblies at their respective offices.

“This initiative demonstrates our unwavering commitment to constitutional values and social justice,” Tatkare reiterated.

The NCP is a key player in the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Shiv Sena and the BJP. The party faced a significant challenge in the recent Lok Sabha elections, following a split in July 2023, losing key seats including the Baramati constituency. Ajit Pawar has since launched the 'Jan Samman Yatra' to connect with voters ahead of the state assembly elections.
