In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. BJP leader Locket Chatterjee expressed approval, stating it would unmask the individuals involved, and accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of inaction in similar past cases.
Chatterjee alleged that local police misled the victim's parents by claiming it was a suicide. She emphasized the urgency for the CBI to secure all evidence, suggesting possible tampering. Echoing her sentiments, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi demanded resignations, blasting the TMC government for complicity and lack of protection for the victim.
Concurrently, the National Medical Commission, guided by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, issued advisories mandating safety policies across medical institutions. The measures aim to protect doctors and staff, with enhanced lighting, CCTV coverage, and secure environments, prompted by a demand for thorough investigations by the Indian Medical Association.
