TMC MP Mahua Moitra has condemned the sexual assault and murder of a postgraduate trainee (PGT) doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, terming it a 'horrific crime.' In a social media post on platform X, Moitra stated, 'The horrific crime at RG Kar has shocked us to the core. No one should be spared; the investigation must be swift and transparent. Thoughts, prayers, and solidarity.'

The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has announced a continuation of its nationwide OPD shutdown following meetings with the Resident Doctors' Association. Similarly, resident doctors at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) are extending their strike until all their demands are addressed comprehensively and in writing.

The incident, dated August 9, has triggered extensive protests and outrage both within and outside the medical community. At Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMC) in South Bihar, doctors staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding justice while holding placards in front of the hospital's superintendent. Visuals showed doctors demanding accountability for the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, resident doctors at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) also staged a protest on Tuesday. Dr. Himanshu from the psychiatric department outlined their three primary demands, emphasizing the need for immediate punishment of the culprit and the establishment of a central act for the protection of resident doctors. Although all OPD services were closed during the protest, emergency services remained operational for patients.
