Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday urged the Bangladesh army and acting government to ensure the safety of the Hindu minority and called for intervention from the Indian government and international organizations.

'The targeted violence against religious minority Hindus since the coup in Bangladesh is extremely condemnable,' the former Rajasthan chief minister wrote on X.

Gehlot described the atrocities against Hindus as 'very painful' and urged immediate steps to halt the violence. He recalled the role of India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 in aiding the country's independence.

Gehlot reminisced about serving in refugee camps near the India-Bangladesh border through Tarun Shanti Sena. He condemned the unfortunate political transition in Bangladesh, which has escalated into violence against religious minorities. In Rajasthan, Hindu groups held rallies on Wednesday over the violence.

UN experts are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to investigate the recent killings of protestors, following Sheikh Hasina's resignation last week.

The Hindu minority community in Bangladesh has faced attacks and threats in 278 locations across 48 districts since the Hasina-led government's fall, according to the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance.
