UAW President Shawn Fain, along with his executive board, endorsed Harris at the end of July, contrasting her with her Republican rival, former president Donald Trump. With significant membership in key swing states such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, the UAW's support is strategically important.

In the 2020 elections, 9.2% of Michigan's votes for Joe Biden came from UAW members. This year, the union plans to engage members through online platforms, workplace events, and door-to-door outreach, although spending plans remain undisclosed. Harris' candidacy has energized the Democrats, and she currently holds a narrow lead over Trump. Despite some UAW members' support for Trump, citing his stance on trade and tax issues, the union's endorsement could sway the election outcome.
