Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on Friday, urging her to cease politicizing the tragic rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Speaking to reporters during a BJP meeting, Sarma contested Banerjee's allegations accusing opposition parties of vandalism at the hospital in North Kolkata. ''The incident in Kolkata is deeply saddening, shocking both West Bengal and the entire nation. Mamata didi should concentrate on identifying the perpetrators and ensuring accountability instead of engaging in politics,'' Sarma stated.
Following the horrific incident on August 9, where a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered, a civic volunteer was arrested. The hospital witnessed vandalism during midnight protests by women condemning the crime. Sarma reiterated that exploiting such a tragedy for political gains is inappropriate.
