The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday leveled serious accusations against West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee-led government, claiming it is playing politics over the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at a Kolkata hospital, rather than enabling a fair investigation and securing justice for the victim.

During a press conference in Gandhinagar at the Gujarat BJP headquarters, the party spokesperson Gopal Agarwal expressed that incidents of rape and murder in West Bengal are alarmingly frequent due to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), allegedly sheltering and aiding criminal elements.

Agarwal condemned the West Bengal government's actions following the August 9 incident at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, stating that the administration dishonored the victim’s family and misreported the crime. He criticized the swift repositioning of the college's principal, suggesting it signifies an attempt to protect those linked to the TMC.
