Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar will share the stage with Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20.
The Congress announced on Saturday that President Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC in-charge for Maharashtra, Ramesh Chennithala, will also attend the rally at Bandra Kurla Complex.
Several programmes have been planned by the Congress in Mumbai, Rajiv Gandhi's birthplace, to celebrate the occasion. Additionally, MVA's constituents—the Congress, NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT)—announced they would contest the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections together, though seat-sharing discussions have yet to gather momentum.
A meeting of MVA allies on August 16 saw Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray urging the alliance to declare its Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the assembly elections, scheduled for October-November. Notably, the MVA had a significant victory in recent Lok Sabha elections, winning 30 out of 48 seats in Maharashtra, reducing the BJP's count from 23 to 14.
