A BJP worker who sustained injuries during an attack in the vote-counting process for the panchayat election in Tripura's Sepahijala district succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Sunday, according to police reports. The worker, identified as Asish Paul, was one of 12 BJP members who were targeted by suspected miscreants at Kathalia.

Following the arrival of Paul's body in his hometown, residents held demonstrations and blocked a road at Sonamura. The blockade was subsequently lifted after authorities assured the arrest of the suspects would be expedited, a police officer confirmed.

Former Union Minister and BJP state core committee member Pratima Bhoumik condemned the attack, accusing around 30 CPI(M) goons of being responsible. 'I will not rest until justice is served for Asish Paul through legal proceedings,' Bhoumik said, further asserting that CPI(M), criticized for alleged terror tactics during its 25-year rule, would not gain any seats in the local panchayat.
