Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls Notification Issued for First Phase

The Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notification for the first phase of three-phased assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. This phase will involve 24 segments set to go to polls on September 18.

With the notification in place, the process for candidate nominations has commenced. Candidates have until August 27 to file their nominations, which will be scrutinized on August 28. The last date for withdrawing candidatures is August 30.

In this initial phase, the constituencies include 16 segments from south Kashmir, such as Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, and Rajpora, among others, and 8 segments from the Jammu region, including Inderwal, Kishtwar, and Banihal. The election, if necessitated, will occur on September 18.
