Maharashtra CM Orders High-Level Probe into Badlapur School Assault

In the aftermath of the alleged sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Tuesday a high-level probe into the incident. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate, and Shinde assured that those found guilty would face stringent punishment.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has designated an SIT headed by Inspector General of Police-level senior IPS officer Arti Singh. Additionally, the Thane Police Commissioner has been directed to transfer the case to a fast-track court for ensuring swift justice.
Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar committed to reinforcing safety measures in schools, including operational CCTVs and the establishment of a Vishaka committee. He also disclosed that one accused has been arrested, and the school principal, class teacher, and two assistants have been suspended. A senior police inspector has been transferred for delaying the case registration.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi voiced statewide outrage and urged the government to approve the Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law. A massive protest took place at Badlapur Railway Station, with stone-pelting incidents reported. Heavy security was deployed, and local train services were halted due to the protests.
