Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was expelled from the state assembly on the instructions of Speaker Shankar Chaudhary after he created a disturbance and entered the well of the House during a debate on the final day of the monsoon session on Friday.

Mevani was escorted out of the assembly by sergeants without the use of force following the Speaker's eviction order. The incident occurred during a debate on drug seizures by Gujarat police, where Mevani vociferously challenged the BJP government to discuss other pressing issues, including rapes.

Mevani, who also serves as the working president of the Gujarat Congress, rushed towards the well of the House and demanded a live television debate with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on various tragedies like the Rajkot game zone fire, Morbi bridge collapse, and Vadodara boat capsize incidents. Despite repeated appeals from the Speaker to maintain decorum, Mevani continued his outburst, leading to his eviction from the House.
