The Congress party has decided against allowing its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs to contest in the Haryana assembly elections, according to AICC in-charge of the state, Deepak Babaria, on Wednesday.
Babaria's statement comes amid rumors that senior leaders like Kumari Selja are keen on entering the electoral fray. He confirmed the decision as the party's screening committee, led by Ajay Maken, met to discuss candidates for the 90 Assembly seats.
Babaria emphasized that MPs would need permission from the Congress president and high command if they wish to contest. He stressed that their focus should be on campaigning rather than contesting.
