The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has thrown its support behind CPI(M) MLA M Mukesh, who has been booked in a rape case, emphasizing that two Congress legislators accused of sexual assault should resign first before seeking Mukesh's resignation.
LDF convener E P Jayarajan stated categorically that neither the CPI(M) nor the Left government would protect any wrongdoers, responding to queries regarding whether Mukesh would resign. He pointed out that much larger sexual assault cases against Congress MLAs M Vincent and Eldhose Kunnappilly had not led to resignations.
Jayarajan added that effective measures have been initiated by the Left government to ensure women's safety in the wake of the Justice Hema Committee report. He reiterated that the government will take strict action against any wrongdoer, including Mukesh, based on the outcome of the ongoing probe.
