Ukraine's parliament has confirmed the appointment of Andrii Sybiha as the nation's new foreign minister, marking a significant move by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to inject new energy into his administration during a critical phase of the ongoing war with Russia.
Sybiha, who previously served as an ambassador to Turkey and most recently as the deputy foreign minister, steps in to replace Dmytro Kuleba. Known for his appeals to Western allies for support against Russia, Kuleba became a prominent figure on the international stage.
Zelenskyy's comprehensive government overhaul includes nearly a dozen top officials, aiming to bolster Ukraine's efforts as the war stretches beyond 900 days. The reshuffle occurs amid severe strains on Ukraine's power grid and escalating battlefield challenges. Meanwhile, Ukrainian civilian casualties continue to rise, adding urgency to the administration's need for sustained Western assistance and military support.
