Jawhar Sircar announced his departure from Trinamool Congress (TMC) and politics on Monday, asserting that his commitment to his values and women's rights remains unshaken. 'Main rajneeti chodh raha hu lekin neeti nahin chodhunga' (I am leaving politics, but not my principles), he told ANI.
Sircar clarified that his opinions could impact the TMC, which is why he had to leave. He criticized the authorities' inaction following a vandalism incident on August 14, questioning why no arrests had been made. 'Early action is what matters; once faith is lost, it becomes very difficult,' he said, while expressing confidence in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
He voiced support for the women's movement in Bengal, highlighting the need for a new system and respect for women. Sircar dismissed the opposition's demand for president's rule, calling it 'a stupid idea.' He urged the state government to heed protestors' demands, suggesting that dialogue with young doctors could resolve the ongoing unrest. Sircar resigned from TMC on Sunday, disappointed with the government's handling of a trainee doctor's murder in Kolkata.
