Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, on Monday vowed that the Congress Party would push for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and ensure it is governed locally rather than from Delhi. Addressing a rally in Poonch, Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and stated that the INDIA bloc has undermined Modi's confidence.
The Congress MP accused the BJP and RSS of spreading division and hatred by segregating people based on caste, creed, religion, and language. He highlighted that historically, union territories have been upgraded to states, but never has a state been downgraded to a union territory, as was the case with J&K, lamenting the loss of democratic rights.
Gandhi committed to fighting for the people's rights and urged the Congress-National Conference alliance candidates to restore statehood post-elections. He promised that the party would counter BJP's divisive tactics with a message of love and unity.
