A political firestorm has erupted in Maharashtra over the killing of Akshay Shinde, accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls. The state government claims the police shot Shinde in 'self-defense' after he snatched a gun and opened fire, injuring an officer. The BJP has called it 'God's justice,' while accusing the Opposition of speaking the language of 'urban Naxals' for questioning the incident.

Opposition leaders have raised questions over the circumstances surrounding Shinde's 'encounter killing' and demanded a judicial probe. The government, however, maintains that the police acted appropriately. 'Police have gathered telling evidence,' said Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar, criticizing the Opposition for what he described as their 'power-hungry' motives.

Shelar also criticized NCP leader Sharad Pawar for demanding an in-depth inquiry and accused the Opposition bloc of trying to create a false perception of law and order breakdown in the state. BJP leaders insist that what happened to Shinde was deserved, calling it the 'justice of God.'
