Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan announced on Sunday that his party would participate in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls. The party is considering all options, including contesting the election in alliance or independently.
Paswan's declaration came a day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also BJP's election co-incharge for Jharkhand, stated that the BJP would contest the assembly elections in alliance with AJSU Party and Janata Dal (United).
LJP (Ram Vilas) is currently part of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
'The LJP state unit is evaluating all possibilities, including running in alliance or separately,' Paswan, who also serves as the Union Food Processing Industries minister, informed reporters at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport.
He is set to address a public meeting in Dhanbad on Sunday.
According to Paswan, LJP (Ram Vilas) has a strong mass base in Jharkhand. He noted, 'When I was born, Jharkhand was part of a unified Bihar. This has been a workplace for my father. The party has established a strong presence in the state. Therefore, we have decided to compete in the upcoming assembly elections.'
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday, 'The BJP will contest the Jharkhand elections in alliance with AJSU Party and JD(U). The seat-sharing agreement is finalized for 99 percent of the seats, with discussions on the remaining one or two seats expected to conclude soon,' Sarma conveyed to reporters in Ranchi.
Sarma added that a formal announcement will be made following 'Pitri Paksha,' ending on October 2.
The Jharkhand assembly elections, comprising 81 seats, are due later this year.
