Former state minister and Samajwadi Party MLA Mehboob Ali has ignited a political storm with comments suggesting that a growing Muslim population could unseat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh's 2027 Assembly elections. Ali's remarks, made at a party event, have been widely circulated on social media.

The 72-year-old MLA from Amroha, during his speech, emphasized that demographic changes would favor the Samajwadi Party, potentially leading to a reversal of the BJP's dominion. "The Muslim population has increased to such an extent that by 2027, the BJP will have to go, and the Samajwadi Party will come to power," he asserted.

As a result, local police have filed an FIR against Ali and SP's district unit president Sheikh Zakir Hussain for promoting enmity between different groups and public mischief following a complaint from Sub-Inspector Sanjeev Kumar. The BJP has been leading the state since ousting the Samajwadi Party in 2017, with the next election due in 2027.
