BSP chief Mayawati has pointed a finger at the Jat community's 'casteist' mindset in Haryana for the Bahujan Samaj Party's disappointing results in the recent state assembly elections.
The BSP contested the elections in alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). However, the ruling BJP surprised its opponents by clinching victory with 48 seats, leaving the Congress with 37 and the INLD with only two. Data from the Election Commission shows the BSP managing just a 1.82 percent vote share, while its ally INLD received 4.14 percent.
Mayawati took to social media platform X, suggesting that the Jat community's reluctance to support BSP candidates, despite an alliance, played a crucial role in the defeat. She urged Haryana's Jats to follow the example of those in Uttar Pradesh, who have embraced change and abandoned caste biases.
